National leaders of three large unions in the country and leaders of unions organized in Ingenio San Antonio and Compañía Licorera, signed an important agreement on Wednesday afternoon, together with Carlos Pellas and representatives of Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua and Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited, guaranteeing labor stability to workers in light of the campaign to destabilize both companies.
The agreement was signed by Roberto Gonzalez Gaitán, Secretary General of the Sandinista Workers' Federation (CST); José Espinoza Navas, Secretary General of the Confederation of Union Unification (CUS) and Carlos Martinez Saavedra, Secretary General of the Autonomous Union Federation (CUSA). The agreement reaffirms the undertaking made by Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited and Compañía Licorera to continue providing humanitarian aid to chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) patients, considering that this disease is a national public health issue that is affecting Nicaragua's population. In this agreement, union leaders reiterated their rejection to the discreditation, slander and boycott campaign initiated by the Nicaraguan Association of Persons Affected by Chronic Renal Insufficiency (ANAIRC) against Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited (Ingenio San Antonio) and Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua, S.A. and their products. The resolution, signed in the offices of Compañía Licorera in Managua, invites the International Union of Food, Agriculture, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Association (UITA) to know more in depth about the renal disease issue affecting the western zone of Nicaragua before issuing any type of attack or opinion that has not been duly verified. In light of this situation, they decided to support research by the government or other international institutions to determine the causes of chronic renal insufficiency in Nicaragua. Likewise, they supported the project to build, in conjunction with the government, NGOs and friends of Nicaragua, a public reference hospital specializing in nephrology. On the other hand, Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited (Ingenio San Antonio) and Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua, S. A., ratified once again that they will continue to invest in their companies as a contribution to the development of the country, as they have been doing in recent years. |
