Nicaraguan businessman Carlos Pellas Chamorro received a special recognition award from Chichigalpa mayor Wilfredo Rostrán, who thanked him for the support given by the Pellas Group to this municipality.

The development and progress of the municipality of Chichigalpa are indissolubly linked to the Pellas Group companies operating in the zone. Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited and Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua S.A. have been present in the region for several decades, creating sources of employment, generating significant taxes for the municipal government and, more importantly, making a substantial contribution to different works of progress that have a positive impact on the quality of life of the population.

This presence and commitment to the well-being of the population and development of the municipality have been recognized in different opportunities by various institutions. However, the award presented by Municipal Mayor Wilfredo Rostrán and the members of the Municipal Council has a special meaning.

On this occasion, we recognize the numerous social investments that the Pellas Group has made during the term of office of the outgoing mayor, totalling over eight million cordobas, to support diverse education, sports and infrastructure projects.

Carlos Pellas has reiterated the necessity of supporting local development as a fundamental premise for doing business. The visionary businessman is convinced that "successful companies cannot exist in failed societies".

Large investment of resources
In the specific case of Chichigalpa, Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited (NSEL), owner of the San Antonio sugar mill and distillery, has invested abundant resources to boost the municipality's economic, cultural, sports and social development.

"It is important to recognize the work of Mr. Carlos Pellas, who over the years and through his companies has supported the municipality of Chichigalpa, employing a large part of the population and executing diverse programs. They have built schools in several communities, reforested rivers, built streets and have also supported diverse sports and cultural activities in the municipality", stated Mayor Rostrán.
ISA also financed the construction of the San Antonio Park, located in a populated sector of the city, which is equipped with playground games for children, classified by age, and recreational kiosks where young people can play chess and board games.
Nicaragua Sugar and Compañìa Licorera, both owned by the Pellas Group, donated the land for the municipal stadium, as well as several million cordobas to resurface the main avenue and build municipal roads.
Both companies also executed reforestation projects along the river banks and hillsides to avoid mudslides during the rainy season.
